BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference officials have scheduled visits to two schools in the Dakotas that have expressed interest in becoming members.

The teams will visit Minot State University in North Dakota on Oct. 19-20 and the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota on Sept. 28-29, Commissioner Butch Raymond said. They will include officials ranging from Raymond to a senior woman administrator from an NSIC school.

The NSIC is a 14-team, 17-sport, NCAA Division II conference with teams in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. The board is considering an expansion.

Minot State and Sioux Falls are moving their athletic programs from NAIA to NCAA Division II, and both have expressed interest in the Northern Sun.

“This is a big step in our process,” Minot State Athletic Director Rick Hedberg said.

Raymond said the NSIC board next meets on Sept. 20, before the Sioux Falls visit, but might set a date at that meeting for a vote on Minot State and Sioux Falls.
