Mount Vernon picks up two wins

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon 15-16-year-old VFW baseball team defeated Armour 4-1 Thursday.
Nate Zens was the winning pitcher. He threw all seven innings and allowed one hit and one earned run. He walked six and struck out 11.
Offensively, Cody London was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Deric Denning was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Jake Sonne was 1-for-3.
Cody Dozark picked up the loss for Armour. He pitched all seven innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, three walks and he struck out three.
Jared Hermanek had Armour’s lone hit. It was a triple.
Mount Vernon also picked up a win Wednesday in Plankinton.
It defeated Plankinton 19-0 in three innings.
London was the winning pitcher. He threw two innings and didn’t allow a hit. He struck out three.
Offensively for Mount Vernon, Sonne was 4-for-4, London was 2-for-3, Zens was 2-for-3, Cam Deinert was 2-for-3, Denning was 2-for-2 and Nick Miller was 1-for-3.
Tom Hanten was the losing pitcher. He pitched one inning, allowing four hits and six earned runs.
Plankinton didn’t register a hit in the game.
Mount Vernon is 17-2. It plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Platte.
