Mount Vernon VFW beats Corsica
MOUNT VERNON — Nate Zens went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Mount Vernon 15- and-16-year-old VFW baseball team past Corsica, 11-6, on Wednesday night. Cam Deinert picked up the win on the mound for Mount Vernon. He went all seven innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits. MOUNT VERNON — Nate Zens went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Mount Vernon 15- and-16-year-old VFW baseball team past Corsica, 11-6, on Wednesday night.
Cam Deinert picked up the win on the mound for Mount Vernon. He went all seven innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits. He walked seven batters and struck out five.
Brian Vermeulen, Deric Denning and Justin Davis each added two hits for Mount Vernon, which improved its record to 10-2. Denning had a double and two RBIs, while Davis also drove in a pair of runs.
Corsica’s Aaron Groenweg went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Kirby Baan Hofmann had a double and two RBIs. Ryan Hongslo took the loss after pitched five innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits.
Mount Vernon’s next action will come Monday when they host Avon at 5 p.m. and Scotland at 7 p.m.
