Evelyn Van De Car, 88, Scotland, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society of Scotland. A memorial service will be held today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Goglin Funeral Home in Scotland followed by a 6:30 prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1921, on the family farm near Scotland to Robert and Pauline (Vilhauer) Hamberger.
On Aug. 19, 1959, she married George Alger Van De Car in Honolulu, Hawaii.
After she graduated from Scotland High School, she worked at numerous businesses in Scotland including the Scotland Clinic.
She moved to Yankton in 1950 and worked at the Firestone Store until 1956 when she moved to Honolulu, where she worked in jewelry design and sales.
After her husband died in 1984, she moved back to Scotland.
She bowled in a weekly league.
In 1998, she moved to the Springfield Assisted Living Center. In 2006, she moved to the Scotland Good Samaritan Society.
She is survived by her stepsister, Donna Meiers and husband, Junior; a half-brother, Thomas Hamberger and wife, Hanhee; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brother- and sister-in-law Leonard and Elsa Hamberger.
