Zens leads Mount Vernon VFW to win over White Lake/Kimball

MOUNT VERNON — Brian Vermeulen went 3-for-3 with a two-run double to lead the Mount Vernon 15- and-16-year-old VFW baseball team past White Lake/Kimball, 14-4, in six innings Friday night.

MOUNT VERNON — Brian Vermeulen went 3-for-3 with a two-run double to lead the Mount Vernon 15- and-16-year-old VFW baseball team past White Lake/Kimball, 14-4, in six innings Friday night.

Nate Zens picked up the win for Mount Vernon. He went five innings and allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out eight.

Zens also went 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI at the plate.

Jake Sonne, Cam Deinert and Justin Davis each added two hits for Mount Vernon, while Cody London delivered a double and three RBIs.

Cole Johnson was hit with the loss for White Lake/Kimball after tossing 4.1 innings and allowing seven runs on six hits. He walked five.

Dylan Konechne had two hits while Jesse Taylor and Trevor Reinisch each had a double for White Lake/Kimball.

Mount Vernon improved to 6-0 with the win and will play next at Avon on Thursday at 6 p.m.

In the 13- and-14-year-old game, Mount Vernon won, 10-9.
