Former deputy Randy Bartlett has defeated Sheriff Mark Kessler in the Hanson County sheriff primary, according to unofficial results from the secretary of state.

The race was a Republican primary, and no Democrat has filed a candidacy.

According to information obtained by The Daily Republic late Tuesday, Jim Lentsch filed a candidate Tuesday as an independent. That means he would square off with Bartlett in the November general election.
