John Luurs, Pukwana

John Luurs, 85, Pukwana, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Sanford Mid Dakota Medical Center, Chamberlain.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Presho. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Chamberlain. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hickey Funeral Chapel, Chamberlain.

John Luurs, 85, Pukwana, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Sanford Mid Dakota Medical Center, Chamberlain.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1924, to Dick and Anna Luurs.

He attended school in the Platte area.

On Sept. 30, 1948, he married Birdena Weekly at Yankton.

They moved to Presho following their marriage and he worked on a ranch.

In 1958, they moved into Presho and he worked at Brown Oil Company filling station. In later years, he worked at Cenex Station and helped area farmers with field work.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, two sons: Raymond and wife Kristen, Blaine, Minn.; and Ron and wife Bonnie, Pukwana; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers: Harry, Yankton; and Richard, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Grace Donker, Chadron, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald; two grandchildren, his parents, a brother, Harm; and three sisters: Gracie Luurs, Anna Mae Muilenburg and Jennie Muilenburg.
