Poem: I Am the Road

I am a speck on the road that leads to the rest of my life.
Time standing still, I am lifeless, but not for long.

By: Heather Franklin, Student

I am a speck on the road that leads to the rest of my life.

Time standing still, I am lifeless, but not for long.

The breeze lifts me up, and we become one; I am the breeze.

Running, I brush through the shades of green blades.

Unnoticed, I blend in, becoming the quilt of grasses.

Becoming alive with the surrounding trees, I am the trees, safe up high.

From afar, I am the horizon; the sun rests on me with its soothing appearance.

I am the landscape, tired with ware, and hills rolling chaotically.

I am the sky, having no end of joy, or sorrow.

I am the sun that rises up during a chilled dawn.

Warming and replenishing lost hope, I am the sun.

I am myself with every little detail.

A never ending road with views along the way, I am the life within it all;

Swirling fields of every hue of life.

I am the road to my life, steering into the tall grasses now and then,

But always finding my way back to myself, my path.

And when the wind decides to take me, I won’t hesitate.

This is simply because I am the key to my own destiny.
