Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg with Fr. Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was born June 9, 1921 in Bowdle to Joseph and Mary (Wentz) Sautner.
He resided on a farm in Hoven until he moved to Gettysburg. He grew up in Gettysburg and farmed.
When he was 21 he joined the U.S. Army on July 15, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served with the company G378th in the 95th infantry division as a technician sergeant. He was discharged on November 2, 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge, EAME Theater Ribbon, three bronze service stars, and the American Theater Ribbon.
In 1952, he and his wife moved into Gettysburg, where he worked at the sale barn for eight years. He worked for the City of Gettysburg for 13 years and Potter County for 21 years as a maintenance worker.
He was a member of the Gettysburg Roping Club and Gettysburg Range Riders.
He moved to Pierre in 2009.
He is survived by four children: Larry and wife Fran, Mitchell; Jerry and wife Cheryl, Gettysburg; Richard and wife Jody, Pierre; and Jeanelle Schaefer and husband Jeff, Hoven; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chris Sautner, Gillette, Wyo.; and Joe Sautner, Pierre; and a sister, Stella Hyuck, Lansing, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and a daughter, Sharie.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg is in charge of arrangements.
