Letter: Today’s TV shows no good for children

To the Editor:
The impressionable young children of this day and age are bombarded to an extremely detrimental way of thinking. You cannot turn on the television without viewing sex, violence and blood and guts.
What ever happened to shows like “Andy Griffith,” “Father Knows Best” or “Leave it to Beaver?” There is just no limit to what they will put on the TV for a thrill or to scare you.
Here’s something really scary. The Bible states in I Corinthians Chapter 6 Verse 9 and 10: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the Kingdom of God.” In my opinion, the television industry promotes all these things.
On the other hand, we are told in the Bible what we are supposed to dwell on. In Philippians Chapter 4 and verse 8 it says “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things.”
This is a far cry from what we watch on television. I personally don’t watch television much. I watch the news, and that’s about it. Every time I try and watch a movie or something, I always view something I would really rather not have a memory of. So what do I do with my time? I read the Bible.
