Elections scheduled Tuesday
Area residents will cast their ballots in various city, town board and school board races Tuesday.Voters in Carthage, Menno, Spencer, Tripp and Winner will decide the fate of contested mayoral or town-board-president races.
Winner School District voters will choose among six candidates for three seats. Incumbents Tom Covey and Marsha Risseeuw face opposition from Jason Bartels, Carrie Ishmael, Brenda Jorgensen and Scott Meiners.

Area residents will cast their ballots in various city, town board and school board races Tuesday.
Voters in Carthage, Menno, Spencer, Tripp and Winner will decide the fate of contested mayoral or town-board-president races.
Winner School District voters will choose among six candidates for three seats. Incumbents Tom Covey and Marsha Risseeuw face opposition from Jason Bartels, Carrie Ishmael, Brenda Jorgensen and Scott Meiners.
A list of area contested races follows.
Carthage mayor: David Hamilton, who was appointed last fall, is being challenged by former council member Dennis Forthman.
Draper town board: Cody Hathaway and Mike Cormwell are running for Raymond Freier’s trustee seat.
Ethan town board: Trustee Robert Fitzgerald faces opposition from John Hart, Fred Hassel and Kim Sinkie for two seats. Chairwoman Nancy Schoenfelder didn’t seek re-election.
Ethan school board: Incumbent Jeff Gustafson and challengers Jason Moke and Jason Riggs are vying for two seats. Vice President Doug Adams didn’t file for another term.
Freeman school board: Craig Paulson is challenging incumbents Brian Anderson and Laverne Diede for two seats.
Kennebec town board: Mark Halvorson and Benjamin Oldenkamp are challenging Janice Lien for her seat.
Menno city: Roger Simonsen is challenging Mayor Darrell Mehlhaf, who was appointed last December. Incumbent Jerry Fischer faces opposition from Aaron Matthaei in Ward 1.
New Witten town board: Mark Weathermon and Dale Tarrell are vying for Roger Heinzman’s trustee seat.
Spencer town board: Town Board President Donna Ruden faces challenger Alex Smart.
Springfield city: Gregory Walpole and Bruce Waage are running for Alvin Gimpel’s Ward 3 seat.
Stickney school board: Don Odens and Chad Clites, who are on the town board, challenge Tony Tilton for his and Cindy Plamp’s seats. Plamp didn’t run for another term.
Tabor town board: Joe Carda, Tony Souhrada and Linda Spencer seek Larry Reining’s seat.
Tripp mayor: Rich English and Edward Rembold are running for this open seat.
Wagner city: Randy Meiers, Dale Petrik and Roger Schroeder are running for Roger Wiltz’s Ward 3 seat.
Wessington Springs city: Ward 3 council member Rachel Fastnacht faces opponent Kim Christensen.
Winner mayor: Jess Keesis is challenging Richard D. Lewis.
Winner school board: Scott Meiners, Brenda Jorgensen, Carrie Ishmael, Jason Bartels and incumbents Tom Covey and Marsha Risseeuw are running for three seats. Ellen Storms didn’t seek another term.
Woonsocket school board: Carrie Howard and Jay Larson are vying with Gary Steichen for a one-year term.
