Letter: Give dispatchers pat on back next week

To the Editor:
Most citizens notice it when dedicated firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMTs respond to disaster and emergency situations. However, most people probably are unaware of the work of an equally dedicated and skilled group of men and women who are essential to any first response.

I’m speaking of the public safety dispatchers of South Dakota, the communications hub for emergency and disaster response. dispatchers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help ensure your safety.

April 11-17 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. It’s a week to honor those who work holidays, weekends and nights to help keep you and our first responders safe. It’s a perfect time to show your appreciation for the work they do.

Give your dispatchers a pat on the back this week. They’re working hard to help keep you safe and your gratitude is well appreciated.
