Letter: Johnson should support legislation

To the Editor:
While some folks may think the Environmental Protection Agency’s endangerment finding to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act may be an effort to protect the environment, it would actually damage the very foundation of South Dakota’s economy.

To the Editor:

While some folks may think the Environmental Protection Agency’s endangerment finding to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act may be an effort to protect the environment, it would actually damage the very foundation of South Dakota’s economy.

The EPA’s regulation would place a heavy economic burden on those in our greatest industries — agriculture and energy. The implications are clear: fewer jobs and higher prices. Our development, construction, agriculture and energy economies would be slowed if not decimated. Congress debated last summer, and now the EPA is recklessly moving forward with far-reaching energy regulation that would mean higher energy prices for all consumers on all types of energy — for your car, heating your home, etc.

It’s my hope that Sen. Johnson joins Sen. Thune and Rep. Herseth Sandlin in opposition on this far-reaching power grab by supporting SJ Resolution 26, a bipartisan effort that would stop the EPA from continuing their action.
