A duo of masked thieves who targeted a Mitchell convenience store Friday apparently were after beer, not bucks.

Detective Lt. Don Everson, of the Mitchell Police Division, said the two suspects entered Rob’s Short Stop, 215 N. Burr St., at 7:33 p.m. Friday. Everson said that as the first suspect brandished a three- to four-foot wooden stick at the clerk, the second removed three cases of beer from the store’s cooler.

Both suspects are believed to be male, he said.

The pair then ran out the front, or east-facing door, and then took off on foot in a northwesterly direction. One case of beer was dropped during the getaway.

There were no injuries, said Everson.

One suspect, the stick-wielder, is described as being 5-8 to 5-10 and 155 to 175 pounds.

He had short sandy hair, was wearing a dark brown hooded sweatshirt, or “hoodie,” and a black ski mask.

The second suspect, who was the same approximate height, was wearing a black hoodie and a dark-colored ski mask.
