Beverly Hofer, Mitchell

Beverly Joyce Hofer, 84, Mitchell, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at her home in Mitchell.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wesleyan Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell.

She was born on April 18, 1925, at Freeman to John A. and Clara (Waltner) Wipf.

She grew up in Freeman and attended schools there, graduating from Freeman High School.

After graduation, she attended Nettleton Business College, Sioux Falls, for a year.

She worked from 1945 to 1961 at the Coast to Coast store in Freeman.

On March 19, 1961, she married Harold A. Hofer at Freeman.

They moved to Mitchell in 1961 and owned and operated the Coast to Coast store until retiring in 1984.

She was a charter member of Mitchell Lioness Club and a member of Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by her children: Carolyn Sweet and husband Otto, Mount Vernon; and Robert and wife Sheila, Blair, Neb.; five grandsons, two stepgrandchildren, a brother, Willis Wipf and wife Joyce, Freeman; a brother-in-law, Ronald Hofer and wife Janet; St. Clair, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Iverson and husband Wesley, Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 25, 1993; her parents, a brother, Orville Wipf and wife Laurene; and a niece.
