Dakota Wesleyan's Johnson named to all-GPAC second team

Dakota Wesleyan senior Allison Johnson was named to the all-Great Plains Athletic Conference second team, it was announced Wednesday afternoon. Johnson, a Mount Vernon native, transferred to DWU for her sophomore season after a year at Northern State. She finished her three-year career with the Tigers with 1,355 points, which puts her at No. 7 on the Tigers’ all-time scoring list.

Johnson, a Mount Vernon native, transferred to DWU for her sophomore season after a year at Northern State. She finished her three-year career with the Tigers with 1,355 points, which puts her at No. 7 on the Tigers’ all-time scoring list.

Her average of 14.6 points per game is fourth-best in school history.

Johnson, who also earned second-team honors her sophomore and junior seasons, graduates with 311 career rebounds, 249 assists and 142 steals. She is an NAIA scholar athlete and was the GPAC’s representative for the NAIA’s Emil S. Liston Award last season.

Johnson led the Tigers in scoring for the third straight year this season. She scored 430 points in 31 games for an average 13.9 points per game. She also led the Tigers in assists (84), steals (44) and 3-pointers (49) and had 96 rebounds.

The 5-foot-6 guard shot 42 percent from the floor, 33.8 percent from 3-point range and 77.4 percent from the line.

Briar Cliff’s Liz Grider was the GPAC player of the year. Kim Faimon of Hastings was the league’s defensive player of the year, Northwestern’s Kendra DeJong was the freshman of the year and Hastings’ Jeff Dittman earned the coach of the year honor.
