Mitchell Fire Division awarded federal grant

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., announced today that the Mitchell Fire Division will receive $17,813 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. The funding will be used to purchase safety equipment and training resources.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., announced today that the Mitchell Fire Division will receive $17,813 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. The funding will be used to purchase safety equipment and training resources.

“Fire departments like the Mitchell Fire Division play an essential role in ensuring the safety of rural counties in South Dakota,” Johnson said. “Firefighters must have quality equipment needed for a quick response to an emergency. This funding is a great example of my Hometown Prosperity Plan to invest in the public good.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program provides grants directly to fire departments and emergency medical service organizations to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public in regards to fire and fire-related hazards.
