A funeral has been scheduled for a slain Mitchell girl who died in November.

The funeral for 16-year-old Jasmine Guevara will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., also at the church.

Guevara was killed Nov. 10. Authorities said she was stabbed and cut on the throat before being placed in a car that was set on fire. Her body was found in the car in rural Mitchell.

Guevara’s body was seized by investigators and only recently was released.

Alexander Salgado, 21, and an as-yet unidentified 15-year-old girl have been accused of committing the murder. Both had moved to Mitchell from Fort Wayne, Ind., prior to Guevara’s killing.

Guevara’s funeral will be conducted by the Bittner Funeral Chapel, of Mitchell. Will Funeral Chapel, also of Mitchell, offered the family a free funeral in November and believed that the family had accepted. Family members have since said through a spokeswoman for the state attorney general’s office that although they appreciated the offer from Will Funeral Chapel, they declined it.
