Florence McGovern, Westlake, Ohio

Florence Gertrude (Brisbin) McGovern, 91, Westlake, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital, Westlake.

Memorial services will be held in the spring in Alexandria.

McGorray Brothers Company, Westlake, is handling arrangements.

She was born in Fulton and received an associate education degree from Dakota Wesleyan University and taught in a one-room school house.

She married Edward McGovern of Mitchell and lived in upstate New York and New Jersey before retiring to Sun City, Ariz., in 1986.

In 2006, she moved to Westlake to be close to family.

She is survived by two sons: Patrick, Media, Pa.; and George, Bay Village, Ohio.; two grandchildren, two sisters: Rose Marie Bessant, Sun City, Ariz.; and JoAnne Hibbison, Sioux Falls; and a brother, Harold, Alexandria.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell.
