Dorothy Jeanne Newcomer, 84, Flandreau, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Flandreau.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Flandreau. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.She was born Jan. 7, 1925, to Clarence and Eunice (Ramsdell) Hanson and grew up on a farm in southeast Moody County. She attended Jules School through the fifth grade. Her family late moved to Flandreau where she graduated from Flandreau High School. She married Eugene Newcomer on Nov. 13, 1941, in Slayton, Minn.
They moved to St. Paul, Minn. where they lived until the outbreak of World War II they returned to Flandreau.
She worked for her father at Hanson’s Furniture Store and was also employed at Westside Grocery. She and her husband worked at 3M in Brookings. She retired from 3M in 1990.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and Methodist Quilters.
She is survived by daughter, Deanna Baldwin, and husband Harvey, Sioux Falls; son Randy and wife Mary, Mitchell; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 14, 1978; two sons: Denis and Terry; a daughter, Sandy; a granddaughter; her parents; and a brother, Donald Hanson.
