Corn crop expected to set records for harvested acreage, production and yield

SIOUX FALLS - South Dakota’s November 1 corn production is forecast at 690.0 million bushels according to the South Dakota Office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The forecasted production is the same as last month and up 18 percent from last year’s level. Yield is forecast at 150 bushels per acre, the same as the October forecast and up 17 bushels from last year. Acres to be harvested for grain are forecast at 4.60 million, unchanged from the previous forecast and up 5 percent from last year. If realized, this corn crop represents record harvested acreage, record production and a record yield for the state of South Dakota.
Soybean production is forecast at 172.2 million bushels, up 3 percent from last month and up 25 percent from last year. Yield, at 41 bushels per acre, is up 1 bushel from last month and 7 bushels from last year. Acres for harvest are forecast at 4.20 million, up 3 percent from last year. If realized, this soybean crop represents record production for the state of South Dakota and the second highest yield in state history.
Sorghum production is forecast at 8.50 million bushels, up 3 percent from last month and 15 percent above last year’s level. Yield, at 68 bushels per acre, is up 2 bushels from last month and is 4 bushels above last year. Grain sorghum harvested acres, forecast at 125,000, are up 9 percent from last year.
