Three Mitchell teams place at Special Olympics softball tournament

HURON — Three Mitchell Area Special Olympics teams placed in their divisions at the state softball tournament Saturday and Sunday in Huron.

HURON — Three Mitchell Area Special Olympics teams placed in their divisions at the state softball tournament Saturday and Sunday in Huron.

The Mitchell T-ball team placed fourth in its division. Team members are Brent Hieb, Vanessa Krcil, Jennifer Kunkel, MaryAnne Lefferts, April Lemke, Jamin Leonard, Micah Spanos, Tanner Stirling, Tyler Tuttle, Sharla VanDuysen, Carly VanRoeckel and Tiffany Vobr. Coaches are Mary Hieb and Steve Krcil.

In a separate division, the Mitchell slow-pitch team placed fourth. Team members are Ian Ames, Tom Archambeau, Thy Chum, Kyle Clarambeau, Thomas Filler, Chuck Grandrath, Travis Hodne, Angie Puetz, Matt Putnam, Danny Schneider and Derek Smith. The team is coached by Nathan Putnam.

In the unified division, the Mitchell team placed third. Team members are Dale Brondel, Scott Goldammer, Aaron Krouse, Brett Pederson, Matt Tietz and Jerry Vobr. Unified partners are Shana Clarambeau, Devrin Clark, Harry Hilton, Mark Jensen and Ryan Jensen. The team is coached by Rodney Clarambeau.

Special Olympics is open to athletes ages 8 and up with intellectual disabilities.
