Wilbur Willis Powell, 92, Pukwana, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Sanford Mid Dakota Medical Center, Chamberlain.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ, Chamberlain. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Chamberlain. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel, Chamberlain, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m.

He was born on April 19, 1917, at home, in Brule County, to William and Harriet (Obr) Powell.

Following the death of his mother, he lived with his grandparents in Tyndall.

He returned to live with his father when he was 4 years old.

He worked on the farm and during the 1930s, he worked for the WPA road construction.

On May 5, 1945, he married Margaret Svenson at Chamberlain.

He was the last surviving member of the Ola Baseball team.

He is survived by his wife, three children: Ruby Brooks and husband Charlie, Dupree; Terry and wife Sheila, Spearfish; and Ricky and wife Karen, Pukwana; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
