Parkston's Laber wins Freeman Flyer Invitational

FREEMAN — Parkston’s Alena Laber cruised to the girls’ title Wednesday at the Freeman Flyer Invitational cross country meet, finishing the course in 16:21, more than 40 seconds of Freeeman Academy’s Lillie Koerner, who took second in 17:03. The boys’ title went to Duane Jongeling of Parker, who finished in 18:40. The top area finishers were Mitchell Christian’s Cristian VanDyke and Parkston’s Dale Schoenfish, who tied for third in 19:00. Avon’s Trace Tjeerdsma took fifth in 19:30.

In the girls’ race, Scotland’s Haley Brunke added a fifth-place finish in a time of 17:47.

Bon Homme finished second in the boys’ team competition with 24 points, behind Parker, which scored only six.

The girls’ title went to Centerville with 25 points, one point better than Parkston’s 26. Canistota-Bridgewater (27) was third, Scotland (33) was fourth, Bon Homme (43) was sixth, Mitchell Christian (68) was eighth and Hanson (92) was ninth.
