Tillie Tofflemire, Wessington Springs

Tillie Clara Tofflemire, 93, Wessington Springs, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Weskota Manor, Avera Health, Wessington Springs. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Wessington Springs, with the Rev. Jan Price officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington Springs. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Basham Funeral Home, Wessington Springs, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m.

Tillie Clara Tofflemire, 93, Wessington Springs, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Weskota Manor, Avera Health, Wessington Springs.

She was born on April 12, 1916, at Hazen, N.D., to Christian and Magdelena (Schmoll) Jenner.

In 1920, the family moved to Buffalo County, where they lived until moving to Marlar Township in 1923. She attended school there.

The family moved to a farm north of Lane in 1937.

On Sept. 21, 1939, she married Lewis G. Tofflemire.

They farmed north of Wessington Springs until 1991, when they moved into Wessington Springs. She was living at Weskota Manor at the time of her death.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, S.D. Farmers Union and other organizations.

She was a cook at the hospital and café for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Morningside Manor, Alcester; five children: Telford and wife Mary, Dewey, Ariz.; Brent and wife Maxine, Dumont, Colo.; Brenda Porter and husband Maynard, Sioux City, Iowa; Norman and wife Nancy, Huron; and Michael, LeMars, Iowa; a son-in-law, Ray Smith and wife Betty, Owasso, Okla.; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a brother, Emil Jenner and wife Dorothy, Huron.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karla Smith; a granddaughter, her parents, two brothers: Benjamin and Fred Jenner; and three sisters: Emma Tiede, Lydia Sandau and Martha Triebwasser.
