Letter to Editor: Why have DOT exams for drivers?

What good is a Department of Transportation physical? I used to drive for Palace Transit until I had to take a DOT physical in February of this year. I failed the physical. The main reason was that I did not have enough peripheral vision in my left eye along with me being a diabetic and having a minor heart problem.

What good is a Department of Transportation physical?

I used to drive for Palace Transit until I had to take a DOT physical in February of this year. I failed the physical. The main reason was that I did not have enough peripheral vision in my left eye along with me being a diabetic and having a minor heart problem.

In the six years that I was employed, I had one fender bender and that was shortly after I was hired. Nothing since.

We were not required to have a DOT physical when I started in 2003 but now Palace Transit deems we needed to have physicals. Again, what good are they? I was terminated because I failed and another driver passed and hit two people while they were crossing the street.

I just wish that someone would explain to me why we needed to be DOT certified.

In my opinion, accidents will and do happen no matter who you are or what condition you are in.
