Mount Vernon VFW teams win two games apiece

The Mount Vernon 13-13-year-old and 15-16-year-old VFW baseball teams both won two games over the weekend.

The Mount Vernon 13-13-year-old and 15-16-year-old VFW baseball teams both won two games over the weekend.

The 13-14 team beat White Lake/Kimball 7-5 as Deric Denning got the win, and it beat Chamberlain 15-2 as Nick Miller got the win.

In the win over White Lake/Kimball, Brian Vermeulen led the way with three hits and three RBIs and Justin Davis had two hits with an RBI. White Lake/Kimball was led by Kyle Peters and Cole Johnson, who both went 2-for-3.

In the win over Chamberlain, Miller was 3-for-5, Jevon Grace was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Denning was 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs and Todd Stekl was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Chamblerlain was led by Hudson Priebe who was 2-for-3.

The Mount Vernon 15-16 team beat White Lake/Kimball 12-3 as Nate Zens got the win, and it beat Chamberlain 10-1 as Kyle Geralch got the win.

In the win over WL/K, Kaleb Kopfmann was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, Nate Zens had two hits and five RBIs, and Gerlach, Brian Kluth and Cody London both had two hits. Brandon Hanten had two hits for WL/K.

In the win over Chamberlain, Kluth was 4-for-5 and Gerlach was 3-for-3 to lead the offense. Gage Bastings was 2-for-3 and Max Tyrell had a double for Chamberlain.

Mount Vernon’s 15-16-year-olds play tonight at 5:30 p.m.
