Sunshine League Capsules: Mad Dogs win eighth straight game
DELMONT — The Mitchell Mad Dogs won their eighth consecutive game Sunday with a 4-2 win over Delmont. The Mad Dogs continued their climb up the Sunshine League standings, moving to 10-6 in the league and 13-7 overall.

Nick Wenande worked seven innings on the mound to pick up the win. He struck out eight hitters and allowed two runs. Scott Redd took the loss for Delmont.
Jason Skinner had three hits and two RBIs for Mitchell and Josh Wenande had a hit, an RBI and scored three times. Marty Takagi also had two hits.
Van Spease had two hits and two RBIs to lead Delmont.
Mitchell will be back in action against Geddes at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cadwell Park.
Platte 10, Geddes 5
PLATTE — Myles Kuiper had a home run, and a triple among his three hits Sunday as Platte beat Geddes 10-5 in the first game of a doubleheader in the Sunshine League.
Rick Sternberg picked up the win for Platte and Willy Meis took the loss for Geddes.
Joe Millar had two hits for Platte and Geddes was led by Ryan Paulson and Brian Oberbroekling, who both had a single and a double.
Geddes 13, Platte 6
PLATTE — Andy Kok and Tyson Dyk both had three hits Sunday to help Geddes salvage a split in the second game of a doubleheader against Platte.
Travis Gant had two hits for Geddes and also picked up the win on the mound. Joe Millar took the loss for Platte.
Platte was led by Scott VandenBerg, who had three hits. Austin Ringling and Myles Kuiper had two hits apiece.
Platte will host the Parkston Mudcats Thursday at 8 p.m. and Geddes will play a makeup game Wednesday when the Ballrockers host Corsica.
Dimock/Emery 14,
Parkston Bullheads 3
EMERY — Phil Johnson had a grand slam and a two-run homer to help Dimock/Emery beat the Parkston Bullheads 14-3 Sunday in a Sunshine League baseball game in Emery.
Gary Early went 3-for-4 for Dimock/Emery and Jeremy Wermers struck out seven in 6.1 innings to pick up the win.
Dave Kayser was 2-for-3 with an RBI double for the Bullheads and Jim Sudbeck took the loss.
Dimock/Emery is now 24-7 overall and 12-3 in the Sunshine League.
Parkston Mudcats 18,
Parkston Rock Bass 6
PARKSTON — Jeff Harris, Austin Ledeboer and Jordan Gau all had a double and two singles to lead the Parkston Mudcats in an 18-6 Sunshine League victory over the Parkston Rock Bass.
Eric Schoenfelder added a home run for the Mudcats and Mike Bowar allowed six hits in 5.2 innings to pick up the win.
Brady Nolz took the loss for Parkston and Jarod Boehmer led the offense with three singles.
The Mudcats are now 20-5 overall and 15-2 in the league. They will play at Platte on Thursday. The Rock Bass are 7-10 in the league and are off until Sunday.
Corsica 5, Stickney 4
CORSICA — Chad Wentland pitched only one inning for Corsica, but picked up the win after he singled home Jesse Johnson with an RBI single in the ninth inning to give Corsica a 5-4 win over Stickney.
Wentland also homered in the game and Johnson had two hits for Corsica. Steven Blom pitched the first eight innings for Corsica.
John Beckman took the loss for Stickney, and led the offense with two singles.
Corsica plays Geddes on Wednesday.
