SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell High School girls’ golf team shot a 374 Monday to finish in seventh place out of 12 teams at the Warrior Invite at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls O’Gorman had four golfers fire rounds in the 80s to finish in first, led by individual medalist Whitney Wheeler, who carded an 81. The Knights’ Michaela Kouri was second with an 82.

For the second time this season, Mitchell had two players shoot in the 80s. Kristin Sabers led the way with an 86 and Chelsea Boddicker shot an 89, the first time she has broken 90 in competition.

“They both had excellent performances,” Mitchell coach Mark Horan said. “They’re our leaders and our No. 1 and No. 2 golfers, so it’s always nice to see them both shoot a good score.”

Abby Bollinger posted another strong score for Mitchell with a 93, but the Kernels — who finished only four strokes behind Watertown (370) for sixth and seven strokes behind Sioux Falls Roosevelt (367) for fifth — were hurt by the fact that their fourth score was a 106.

Karlie McEntee shot a 106 for Mitchell, Kendra Cersosimo fired a 107 and Courtney Kirby had 109.

“We were really close to three or four teams there, but we just missed that fourth score,” Horan said.

Host Sioux Falls Washington finished second at 348, Yankton was third at 358 and Rapid City Stevens was fourth at 360.
