ACT to hold auditions for summer musical

The Area Community Theatre will hold auditions for "The King and I," a Rodger and Hammerstein musical that will kick off the ACT's 2011-2012 season.

Auditions are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre for the Performing Arts.

The cast requires 20 men, 15 women and 12 children in addition to chorus members, dancers, a stage crew, accompanist, seamstresses, artists and designers.

"The King and I" runs Aug. 5-7 and 12-14 at the theater.

The play is based on the 1844 novel, "Anna and the King of Siam," written by Margaret Landon.

The script tells the story of a British schoolteacher who is hired by King Mongkut of Siam to modernize the country. Anna and the Kings relationship is conflicted throughout most of the play, but is soon consumed by a love neither are able to express.
