Youth place at first-ever national dart tourney

Ten youth dart throwers from Mitchell placed at the first-ever National Dart Association junior national dart tournament over the weekend in Minneapolis.

There were three champions from the group, who is sponsored by D&E Music & Vending of Mitchell. Cody Hagemeyer and Connor Hagemeyer teamed up to win the open doubles 501 level 5 title, while Kolton Stuckey won the open singles 501 level 7 title.

The national tournament featured 67 kids from South Dakota and was for youth ages 20 and younger. There were three champions to come out of Miller as well, including Devyn Gortmaker, Mike Winsell and Rod Gortmaker. The Miller youth dart league is sponsored by Manford Music & Vending.

"I thought the kids really represented Mitchell and South Dakota well," said Britt Bruner, vice president of D&E Music & Vending. "Darts is a big deal in South Dakota and this is our next generation of big deals. To have national champions come out of two local leagues in their first year speaks pretty highly of what these kids are all about."

Other participants from Mitchell include Casidy Hagemeyer, Alex Pierce, Jenna Pierce, Troy Pierce, Ashley Faas, Alyssa Geist and Mason Bartunek.
