Work on Highway 38 to begin
Shoulder work will begin today in the eastbound lane of Highway 38, approximately a quarter-mile east of Foster Street in Mitchell, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
Work includes removing concrete curb and installing slotted drain pipe under the shoulders of the road and over the railroad underpass.
Traffic will be controlled using stop signs. Vehicles must stop at the stop signs and proceed in an alternating manner with oncoming traffic.
Once work is complete in the eastbound lane, traffic will be switched so work can be done in the westbound lane.
Work is expected to be completed by June 15, with an overall completion date of Oct. 17.
This work is part of a $2.1 million region-wide structure rehabilitation project.
The prime contractor is BX Civil and Construction, of Dell Rapids.
