Woman injured in accident near Wagner
WAGNER -- An area woman and two children were injured in a Friday afternoon accident near Wagner, authorities said.
According to Highway Patrol Trooper Casey Bassett, Marita White, 28, was northbound on 395th Avenue at 3:30 p.m., about five miles south of Wagner, when the 2004 Cadillac SRX Luxury she was driving drifted into the east ditch. White -- who has a Sisseton address, but Bassett said he believed lives in the Wagner area -- hit a driveway, sending the vehicle into the air, coming down on the other side of the approach.
Bassett said upon landing, the vehicle spun around several times. It did not roll over, but at one point was laying on the driver’s side; however, Bassett said the incline of the ditch uprighted the vehicle, so it came to rest on all four wheels.
Bassett said White was not wearing a seatbelt, and was transported by ambulance to Wagner Community Hospital with serious injuries. He said those injuries were deemed life-threatening, and White was then air-lifted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Two children, a 1-year-old and an almost 2-year-old, were passengers in the vehicle. Bassett said they appeared to have been restrained, and suffered minor injuries. He declined to release their names due to their juvenile status. Bassett said citations are pending, but declined to say on what charges.
