Woman charged with grand theft for writing bad checks
A 35-year-old Sioux Falls woman faces a felony theft charge for allegedly passing more than $1,800 worth of bad checks at grocery stores in Mitchell and Huron.
Carla Marie Benton could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine after being arrested on one count of grand theft July 30. Benton allegedly passed $1,837.44 worth of bad checks at Coborn's in Mitchell and Huron.
Benton admitted to authorities she knew there was no money in the account associated with the checks, court documents say.
