Woman arrested for DUI after wrong way crash on I-90
MOUNT VERNON -- A Mitchell woman was arrested Saturday for drunken driving after allegedly sideswiping another vehicle while driving the wrong way on Interstate 90 near Mount Vernon.
Santana Andrade, 24, is charged with second-offense drunken driving and multiple traffic violations as a result of the incident, which occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, less than two miles west of Mount Vernon, according to South Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. Jeff DeVaney.
Andrade was allegedly driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-90 in her Oldsmobile Alero when she sideswiped a westbound Buick LeSabre, driven by 23-year-old Brittni Butler, of Chamberlain.
Andrade was not wearing her seat belt and suffered minor injuries in the crash. Butler, who was wearing her seat belt, was not hurt.
Second-offense drunken driving is a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
