Woman accused of possessing fentanyl

A Mitchell woman is accused of possessing a controlled substance.

Kelly Marie Carpenter, 33, admitted to law enforcement she used fentanyl, a prescription pain drug, for which she did not have a prescription, according to court documents.

She allegedly admitted to law enforcement she had a fentanyl patch in her car and gave permission to search that vehicle. Mitchell Police Officer Dean Knippling found the patch stuck to a prescription bottle belonging to Carpenter. Fentanyl is a controlled substance. The penalty for possessing it is a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
