Doane's Hanah Barnard hit the game winning free-throw with 57 seconds to go in the game. Down 69-68, DWU had one final look at the basket, but the shot was missed by junior guard Amanda Hart.

"This is probably the toughest loss of the year," DWU women's basketball coach Jason Christensen said. "When you have a 12-point lead, you have to make a push to get it to 20 so the other team can't come back at the end."

Hart led the way for Wesleyan with 23 points and eight rebounds. Kim Johnson added 15 points, while Celeste Beck chipped in with 14 points and five assists. Katie Johnson also had 10 points and six rebounds for DWU, which finished 26-of-61 from the field. Wesleyan was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line and grabbed 32 rebounds. While DWU (15-8, 8-6 GPAC) shot it well from the free-throw line, its outside shooting was not so hot. Wesleyan was 7 of 24 from three-point range.

Barnard led the way for Doane (11-12, 5-10 GPAC), by scoring 25 points. Heather Broman chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds.

"In the first half we shot the ball real well," Christensen said. " It was a tough game, they got to the line a lot more than we did. We just couldn't get a break down the stretch."

DWU hits the court again against Morningside College Monday in Sioux City, Iowa.
