Two-Woman Scramble to be held Aug. 14

Lakeview Golf Course is hosting a Two-Woman Scramble Aug. 14.

There is a $40 entry fee per golfer and there will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. All participants must be registered by Aug. 12 and must be at least 18 years old. To register, call 605-995-8460.

Four to represent area in All-Star baseball game

Four area baseball players were chosen to represent their teams in the South Dakota Legion All-Star game, which is at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Lake Norden.

Zach Bies and Jon Forrester, of Miner/McCook, and Phillip Schroeder and Matthew Randall, of Platte-Geddes, were nominated by coaches across the state to play in the game.

Plankinton wins District 3 crown

PLANKINTON — The Plankinton Bankers shut out Miller 9-0 in the District 3 amateur baseball tournament Thursday.

The Bankers outhit Miller 7-3 in the game, and both teams advance to play in the Class B amateur baseball tournament, which begins Wednesday in Sioux Falls.

Chris Hill had two hits and two RBIs in the win. Kyle Bruinsma had one hit and two RBIs, while Jeremy Pischke, Trevor Boyd, Rueben Earl and Orric Earl each had a hit.

For Miller, Sam Simons had two hits and Jay Winter had one.

District 5 tourney games postponed

The District 5 amateur baseball tournament championship game was postponed due to weather.

The title game between the Parkston Mudcats and Alexandria Angels was originally set for 8 p.m. Friday but was moved to 7 tonight in Parkston.

Platte and Dimock/Emery will also square off for a state tournament berth before the championship game. That game begins at 5 p.m.

S/M/C claims Region 2B title

SALEM — The Salem/ Montrose/Canova teener baseball team defeated Alexandria 7-3 in the 15-16 Region 2B tournament Friday.

The winning pitcher was Tim Gassman, who threw four innings in relief. Cole Cheeseman started the game, giving up one run on two hits while striking out one in three innings.

The losing pitcher was Josh Feiner, who pitched three innings. Tucker Kingsbury threw four scoreless innings in the loss.

Bryce Roth had two hits with a double and three RBIs, Isaac Anderson had two hits and Cheeseman had a single and two RBIs in the win. For Alexandria, Feiner and Kingsbury had two singles.

Both teams will advance to the state tournament next week.

Parkston teener team to play in region title game

WAGNER — Parkston is 3-1 and will advance to the title game in the 15-16 Region 4A tournament.

The championship game against Tyndall began Friday but was postponed halfway through the first inning and will begin at 2 p.m. today. Tyndall was leading 2-0, and both teams have already qualified for the state tournament, which is Friday in Harrisburg.

Parkston also recorded wins over Wagner and Winner and lost to Tyndall in its first game.
