Huskers’ Memorial Stadium addition pushes capacity past 90,000

Gov. Dave Heineman, retired football coach and athletic director Tom Osborne and Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany were among the dignitaries who participated in a ceremony in front of the East Stadium entrance Thursday.
The addition of 38 skybox suites brings the stadium’s total to more than 100.
Private donations and revenue from the new seating are funding the project, which will be paid off in seven years.
Osborne said the brain and athletic performance research areas will be major selling points in recruiting for all of the university’s teams.
2-Man Scramble to be held Sept. 1

DWU men’s soccer team wins 3-0 in exhibition matchBy The Daily RepublicMANKATO, Minn — The Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer team came away with its second straight 3-0 win in an exhibition game Friday when it defeated Bethany Lutheran College.
The Tigers received goals from Chaz Foss, Sam Roberts and Kenny Mattson, and Roberts also had an assist. DWU also defeated Iowa Lakes Community College 3-0 in its first exhibition contest. DWU opens its regular season Aug. 31 against Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wis.
MC/MV falls to JVC in opener

HURON — The Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon soccer team fell to James Valley Christian 6-0 in its opening match of the season Friday in Huron.
Noah Bowman had 20 saves to lead MC/MV. JVC led 2-0 at halftime, but the game was broken open in the early stages of the second half when JVC scored three goals in a three-minute span.
MC/MV hits the field again at 1 p.m. Aug 31. against St. Thomas More in Rapid City.
