Mitchell native Solberg lands on GPAC tennis list
Megan Solberg was named to the all-GPAC women's tennis team after her freshman season with Moningside College. The Mitchell High School graduate finished the season 13-6 as the Mustangs No. 5 singles player, which tied a school record for wins in a season.
Mitchell JV baseball team sweeps Sioux Falls Roosevelt
The Mitchell junior varsity baseball team swept a doubleheader Friday at Drake Field in Mitchell.
Mitchell (11-3) defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3-2 and 3-0.
Matt Larson picked up the win on the mound in the first game. He pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out six. Jacob Rice earned the save, getting the last three outs of the game.
Offensively, Landon Neugebauer had a triple and two RBIs and Derek Miller was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
In the second game, Miller had a complete-game shutout for the win. He gave up two hits with two walks. He struck out 12. Mitch Johnson had a hit and an RBI and Brady Bathke had an RBI.
Ethan's Thompson awarded belt buckle for roping
Tate Thompson took home the Champion of Number 9 Roping award at the United States Team Roping Circuit April 27-29 in Rapid City.
The Ethan native, son of Todd and Debbie Thompson, was presented with a belt buckle for the accomplishment.
Source: LeBron James wins third NBA MVP award
MIAMI (AP) -- A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that Miami's LeBron James will be announced today as the NBA's MVP, the third time he's won the award in the past four seasons.
James will become the eighth player to win the award at least three times, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone.
