Mitchell Parks & Rec youth sports registration open
The Mitchell Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for third through sixth-grade girls for volleyball, which is scheduled to start next week.
Registration is also open for first through sixth-grade boys for wrestling and for boys and girls basketball.
Those wishing to sign up can do so at the Recreation Center or online at cityofmitchell.org.

Tyler, Keiser, Knebel earn COY
Three area coaches were named volleyball coaches of the year in their region by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association, it was announced Friday.
Wagner’s Amy Tyler was named Region 5 coach of the year, while Winner’s Jaime Keiser was named Region 6 coach of the year.
Both teams made the Class A state volleyball tournament, where Winner took second and Wagner finished fifth.
Wagner’s Stacey Knebel was named the Class A junior varsity coach of the year.
Six Kernels earn academic all-state
Six Mitchell Kernel volleyball players were named Class AA academic all-state selections, it was announced Friday.
Mitchell’s Emma Schmidt, Taylor Sebert, Alison Murphy, Kennedy Ischen, Shelly Iburg and Ally Goldammer were honored for the Kernels.
Bon Homme had the most of any area team in Class A or Class B team with six.
To be eligible for the award, an athlete must be a senior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and have participated in the sport for at least three years.
At left is a full list of area volleyball players who made the list.
Marlin boys top Sioux Falls 3-1
SIOUX FALLS — Jacob Cersosimo scored two goals and added an assist for the Mitchell Marlins in a 3-1 win over the Sioux Falls Flyers Friday in Sioux Falls.
The win was the second in a row for the Marlins, who are now 2-3.
Alex Murtha provided a third period insurance goal for the Marlins, while goaltender Tate Sutherland stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced for the win.
Jordan Grosdidier and Cole Carlson each added an assist for Mitchell.
The Marlins play Sioux Falls at 11:45 a.m. today in Sioux Falls.
Parkston wrestling wins one of three on first day of national tourney
ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Parkston Trojans wrestling team finished 1-2 on the opening day of The Clash.
The Trojans dropped its first dual of the day to Bettendorf of Iowa 36-33. Parkston then fell to Totino Grace of Minnesota 36-28.
The reigning Class B state champions rebounded with a 34-30 win over Adrian of Minnesota.
Wes Dvorak, 152 pounds, and heavyweight Austin Bertram each won all three of their duals.
The Trojans will look to add more wins to their total in the second day of the tournament, which starts today at 9 a.m.
