DWU to host volleyball camp

Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball coach Eric Viney and the Tiger program will host three camps.

The Tiger Youth Camp is Monday through July 24, the Tiger High School Skills Camp is Monday through July 24 and the Tiger Team Camp is July 24-27. All three camps are at the Christen Family Wellness Center on the DWU campus.

The youth camp is open to players from third through eighth grades and is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. each day. The skills camp is from 8 a.m. to noon each day.

The youth camp is $50 per athlete, while the high school cost is $75 per player.

Youth football, soccer signups open at center

Signups for fall soccer and youth football are now open at the Mitchell Parks and Recreation Center.

The deadline for the fifth- and sixth-grade tackle football is Aug. 13, and all boys must weigh in at the Rec Center. The deadline for third- and fourth-grade flag football is Aug. 19, and the kindergarten through fourth-grade boys' and girls' soccer deadline is Aug. 19.

Rock Bass beat Bullheads 13-6

PARKSTON -- The Parkston Rock Bass defeated the Parkston Bullheads 13-6 in a Sunshine League baseball game Tuesday.

Eric Norden was the losing pitcher, while the winning pitcher was Sterling Kinneberg. Kinneberg pitched nine innings.

For the Bullheads, Barry Behrend was 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Tim Rands was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and double.

For the Rock Bass, Tommy Murtha was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and a double. James Boehmer was 2-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a double, and Billy Murtha was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBIs, a double and triple.

The Rock Bass (7-9) play Dimock/Emery at 8 p.m. Thursday in Emery.

Nagel signs with Wesleyan women

Chesney Nagel signed with the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team, it was announced Tuesday.

Nagel who is heading into her senior year is the first signee of the 2014-2015 recruiting class for the Tigers.

As a junior at Avon, Nagel earned first team all-conference honors in addition to being named Class B second-team all-state.

The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 20.2 points per game, seven rebounds and six assists per game for the Pirates.
