Miller commits

to Mount Marty

Mitchell High School senior Derek Miller has committed to play baseball at Mount Marty College, it was announced Tuesday.

As a junior for the Kernels, Miller went 2-0 on the mound with a 2.50 earned run average and batted .326 with six doubles during the spring baseball season. Miller went 6-1 during the Legion season with a 3.67 ERA.

Miller, who is the recipient of a Mount Marty honors scholarship for his academic achievements, starts his final spring season with the Kernels Thursday against Sioux Falls Washington.

Glascow signs fourth player

to 2014-15 class

Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer coach Clay Glascow announced Tuesday the signing of Rebecca Ehrenfried for the 2014-15 season.

The Pierre native is a 5-foot-8 defender and her sister, Maranda, also plays for the Tigers. Ehrenfried played four years of soccer for Pierre and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. She also played for the South Dakota United club team and was a member of two state championship teams.

DWU wrestling team has top

GPA in NAIA

The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team finished with the highest grade point average of any NAIA team in the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The Tigers recorded a 3.33 GPA, while Bethany College had a GPA of 3.327. Pierre native Tyler Sarringar and Mount Vernon native Kyle Gerlach were also named to the NWCA NAIA all-academic team, which features individuals who qualified for the national tournament with a GPA of 3.25 or better. Sarringar had a 3.96 GPA, while Gerlach recorded a 3.85 GPA.
