Price, VanLeur to speak at QB Club

This week’s special guests at the Mitchell Quarterback Club meeting are Hanson volleyball coach Yolanda Price and Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan football coach Jeff VanLeur.

The meeting is held at The Depot in Mitchell with the meal starting at 6:30 p.m. and meeting kicking off at 7:30 p.m.

Mitchell and DWU coaches will also talk about their teams.

Swimming lesson sessions available for registration

The Mitchell Recreation Center is now taking registration for the Oct. 8-24 session of Level 1 and preschool 5’s swimming lessons.

Classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the cost is $24. For more details, call 605-995-8450.

Kernels fall to BV in girls’ tennis

BRANDON — The Kernel girls’ tennis team won two singles matches in its 7-2 loss to Brandon Valley Tuesday.

No. 4 Sammy Pooley and Flight 6 Avery Larson earned wins for the Kernels.

Mitchell (8-15, 2-9 ESD) plays in the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament at 9 a.m. Thursday in Pierre.

Safranski sinks hole-in-one

Mitchell resident Ted Safranski sunk a hole-in-one Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

Safranski used a pitching wedge to make the shot on the eighth hole from 108 yards away.

Tuesday’s hole-in-one was Safranski’s fourth time reaching the feat.

MHS girls fall to Groton Area 3-0

GROTON — The Mitchell girls’ soccer team fell 3-0 to Groton Area Tuesday.

Both teams were knotted at 0 until Groton Area scored with 24 seconds left in the first half.

The Kernels gave up two more goals in the second half to lose its season finale.

Mitchell ends its season 3-9-1.

MHS boys lose season finale to Groton Area

GROTON — The Mitchell Kernel boys’ soccer team’s season came to an end Tuesday as it fell to Groton Area 4-0.

Cole Carlson had seven saves and the Kernels (2-9-2) took 11 shots. Mathias Pedersen was named Mitchell’s man of the match.

Mitchell coach Jason Wear said his squad played decent, but were plagued by the three goals it gave up in a four-minute span in the first half.

Tigers fall to Northwestern in 3

The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team fell to Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Northwestern College in three sets Tuesday.

Set scores were 25-11, 25-16, 25-15.

Sarah Kruse had seven kills and two digs to lead the way for the Tigers. Briana Jung added 12 assists, six digs and two kills, while Taylor Spence had four kills, three digs and two aces.

Northwestern (22-1, 6-0 GPAC) was led by Karlie Schut and Kaitlin Floerchinger. Schut had 11 kills, two digs and two blocks, while Floerchinger had 11 kills, four aces and eight digs.

DWU (4-16, 0-7 GPAC) plays Presentation College at 7:30 p.m. today at the Christen Wellness Center.

MC/MV falls to SF Christian

SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell Christian/Mount Vernon boys’ soccer team’s season came to an end as it fell to Sioux Falls Christian 10-0 Tuesday.

The score at halftime was 7-0. MC/MV (2-9-1) used Phillip Millar and Noah Bowman in goal. Millar had seven saves, while Bowman had 16.

DWU women win, men tie against Dordt College

The Tiger women won and the Dakota Wesleyan men tied Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Dordt College Tuesday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

The DWU women (0-10) defeated Dordt 3-1, while the men (6-2-2) earned a double-overtime tie.

Autumn Vigil, Maranda Ehrenfried and Linsey Peterson each scored goals for the DWU women.

Mike Haight had the only goal for the DWU men, which came in the first half of the matchup.

Both teams continue conference play Saturday when they face Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.
