Tigers swept by Briar Cliff at Palace

Dakota Wesleyan University's Danielle Bird had 11 kills and Sam Sandau added eight, but it was not enough as Briar Cliff University beat the Tigers 25-12, 25-20, 25-18 in a college volleyball match Wednesday night at the Corn Palace.

Briana Jung had 25 assists and Bird added 12 digs for DWU, which fell to 7-14 overall and 0-5 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

The Tigers host Nebraska Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Christen Family Wellness Center on the DWU campus.

Chamberlain girls win CSDC meet

GETTYSBURG -- Maci Burke and Madeline Tyrell helped lead the Chamberlain girls' cross country team to a first-place finish at the Central South Dakota Conference cross country meet Wednesday.

Burke, a sophomore, finished second in a time of 16 minutes, 15 seconds, while Tyrell, a freshman, was third in a time of 17:28.

Mindy Kraft, of Wessington Springs, won the event in a time of 16:07. Chamberlain also had Talia Colombe finish sixth, Anna Byers take seventh and Brittany Goodlow take 10th in the girls' race.

In the boys' race, it was Jase Kraft and Terrek Butterfield leading the Wessington Springs team to a title. Jase Kraft, a sophomore, won the event in a time of 18:17, while Butterfield took fifth in a time of 19:39.

Chamberlain's Michael Krogstad took second in a time of 18:19. Chamberlain's Davis Carson took seventh, Austin Hutmacher was ninth and Wessington Springs' Braden Jones took 10th in the boys' race.

Bellet earns honor from conference

Dakota Wesleyan University's Dani Bellet was named Great Plains Athletic Conference/Hauff Mid-America Sports women's golfer of the week, it was announced Wednesday.

Bellet won two tournaments over the week at the Midland Invitational and the Corn Palace Classic Invitational. She has won six tournaments so far this season and is the leader in the GPAC heading into the second qualifier, which is scheduled for Saturday in Fremont, Neb.

Jirsa rolls 300 game at The Village Bowl

Mitchell native Ryan Jirsa bowled a 300 game at The Village Bowl on Thursday night.

Jirsa, who lived in Sioux Falls for four years before moving back to Mitchell on Tuesday, bowled the perfect game in the first game of a series while playing in the National Wednesday Night League at the alley.

It is his fifth-career sanctioned 300 game. The other four all were bowled in Sioux Falls, though he said he has rolled 300 games during practice games at The Village Bowl.

Jirsa is 33 years old.
