Work to begin for $4.6M Rapid City soccer complex By The Associated Press
RAPID CITY — The Rapid City Council has approved a $1.7 million contract for the first phase of work at a future soccer complex in the northeastern part of the city.
The work includes an extension of the city’s water main, and irrigation and seeding of the $4.6 million, 12-field complex.
The city has approved about $3.8 million for the project from sales tax revenue. A local soccer group will need to raise the rest privately.
DWU women’s golf squad sets records By The Daily Republic
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golf team set hole scoring records en route to finishing sixth at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic Tuesday.
The Tigers set school records for 18-, 36- and 54-hole scoring. Wesleyan set the 18-hole record with a 304 in the second round. The second round added with DWU’s first-round score of 320 gave it a 624 for the 36-hole record. In the final round of the two-day event, DWU shot 316 finishing with a 940 over three rounds of golf.
Redlands Community College won the team competition with a final score of 895.
DWU’s Lauren Fitts finished tied for 11th in the individual race to lead the way for the Tigers. Jenna Winckler finished 25th after shooting a 233.
Kernel boys fall to Harrisburg By The Daily Republic
The Mitchell High School boys’ soccer team fell to Harrisburg 4-0 Tuesday at Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
The score was 0-0 at halftime, and Mitchell had six shots on goal in the game.
The Kernels (2-5-2) host Aberdeen Central at 3 p.m. Saturday.
MC/MV tops Chamberlain By The Daily Republic
CHAMBERLAIN — Phillip Millar and Ethan Cooper each scored two goals in Mitchell Christian/ Mount Vernon’s 5-0 win over Chamberlain Tuesday.
Nathaniel Zapf also found the back of the net for MC/MV.
The halftime score was 2-0, and MC/MV outshot Chamberlain 18-5. Goalkeeper Noah Bowman made five saves.
MC/MV (2-6) hosts James Valley Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
MHS fastpitch team drops DH By The Daily Republic
HARTFORD — The Mitchell fastpitch softball team fell in a doubleheader to West Central 11-6 and 7-3 Tuesday.
Andrea Konz took the loss, giving up 11 runs on 11 hits, while striking out two.
Hallie Misiaszek went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jenna Skinner and Megan Zephier each went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ellie Rew also went 2-for-3. The Kernels scored six runs on 10 hits.
In the second game, Rew took the loss. She gave up five runs on five hits and struck out one in three innings. Skinner went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Alyssa Green went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Zephier went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Misiaszek pitched two scoreless innings in her return after an elbow injury. She has 185 strikeouts and is second all-time for Mitchell (1-13).
Briar Cliff tops Wesleyan in three By The Daily Republic
The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team fell to Briar Cliff University 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 in its Great Plains Athletic Conference opener Tuesday.
Sarah Kruse had 12 kills to lead the way for the Tigers. Briana Jung had 23 assists, while Rebecca Garcia had eight assists. Maggie Stehly had 12 digs for the Tigers, Taylor Spence had nine digs and Mackenzie Stevens had eight digs.
