Water main break closes road, shuts off water for Mitchell residents
Some Mitchell residents were without water Saturday afternoon after a water main break along West First Avenue.
Workers from the city responded around 3 p.m. to a water main break between North Sanborn Boulevard and North Edmunds Street. According to Mitchell Deputy Public Works Director Terry Johnson, crews fixed the break in the old, 8-inch cast iron pipe with a pair of repair sleeves.
The water was shut off for area residents most of the afternoon, Johnson said as repairs took about five hours. West First Street between North Sanborn Boulevard and North Minnesota Street was closed during that time Saturday, due to the repairs. The streets were re-open by 8 or 9 p.m. Saturday.
