Wagner teen airlifted after beating
WAGNER — A Wagner man is charged with aggravated assault after being accused of strangling, biting and hitting his girlfriend Saturday.
Joseph Hartley, 18, was interviewed and arrested on the charge Saturday. Aggravated assault carries a maximum punishment upon conviction of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
The Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 2 a.m. Saturday of a disturbance located at 306 First St. SE in Wagner.
Upon investigation of the disturbance, law enforcement discovered an unconscious 19-year-old woman in the residence. She allegedly showed signs of strangulation, human bite marks and bruising.
She was taken by ambulance to the Wagner Community Hospital and was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case with the assistance of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
The name of the victim is being withheld by authorities.
