Volunteers needed for Mitchell’s CASA
An organization that helps neglected and abused children desperately needs more volunteers.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate group in Mitchell appoints volunteers to be the voice for these children in court if they are removed from their homes.
The need to help children in CASA’s eight-county coverage area of Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson and McCook is continuing to rise.
One CASA volunteer said, “It does so much good, not just for the child but for the parents also, and assists the court as eyes and ears as to what’s going on.”
Last year, there were 46 children helped by a CASA volunteer. To date this year, 33 children have been helped, with four children currently waiting for a volunteer.
“We simply do not have enough volunteers,” says First Circuit CASA Executive Director Jackie Horton. “Right now, we have 19 volunteers, but we could very easily use 10 more immediately.”
