Volesky considers Senate run
HURON — Former state legislator and one-time Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ron Volesky said Monday he is considering a run for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., is not seeking reelection. Several candidates are running for the Republican nomination; on the Democrat side, only Rick Weiland, a former aide to Tom Daschle, has formally announced a candidacy.
“I believe it is essential and of paramount importance that South Dakota maintains a strong presence in the United States Senate,” Volesky said in a news release.
Volesky, a lawyer in Huron, served 16 years in the South Dakota Legislature.
